ST.AGNES CHRISTMAS PERFORMANCE - 'THE SHEPHERDS TALE'
On Sunday 18th. December 2011 St.Agnes Anglican Parish performed a new "play in-the-round" which had been written by a parishioner, Chris Rowe. Our Musical Director and organist, Jacquie Bennet, collaborated with Chris to add appropriate musical numbers to be performed by the St.Agnes Choral Group. The cast and Choral Group spent quite some time in rehearsal and had a great deal of fun coming to grips with the concept of performing - 'in the round'.
The Shepherd's Tale is essentially a retelling of the Christmas story by a group of people who become shepherds, angels, Magi, innkeepers, King Herod, and of course, Mary and Joseph. The performance had a little of everything and one of our parishioners, Devon Hart, took a great many photographs during the perfromance. Here are some examples of our cast and choir performing 'The Shepherds Tale'.
We had the Angel Gabriel who appeared to Mary -
Mary and Joseph were trying to find a room at the Inn but were told there was No Room but eventually the Innkeeper and his wife found a manger :-
After the birth of Jesus Mary and Joseph placed the baby in the manger :-
Shepherds were in the fields tending their flock and an Angel of the Lord appeared to them telling them of the birth of the Messiah. They went to visit the child in the manger.
Three wise men or Magi had been following the course of a special star which proclaimed the birth of the Messiah and they were led to the court of King Herod who demanded that they return and tell him when they found the Messiah.
The Magi travelled on the find Mary and Joseph and the baby.
The Magi go on their way and do not go near Herod's court - Herod angrily demands the Royal Guard kill all male infants.
Later the Angel appears to Mary and Joseph and telld them to flees to Egypt.
